Wellington Equestrian Group Holiday Party

Against a backdrop of equestrian competition in the main ring of the Palm Beach International Equestrian Center, 600 kids and parents from the Caridad Center were treated to a world-class Christmas party hosted by volunteers and friends of the Wellington Equestrian Group. The party and fundraising, was started 25 years ago by BJ Meeks and Pablo Perez of Wellington. The pair was joined by equestrians Caroline Moran, Nancy Hooker, R. Bruce Duchossois and hundreds of volunteers to make the event, held in a huge tent overlooking the show grounds, a morning to be remembered. Lunch was provided by Tim Gannon, co-founder of Outback Steakhouse and his employees. Santa and the distribution of each child’s personal wish list of toys, bikes, skateboards and scooters concluded the event. “What an uplifting event this was” said Meeks. “Especially in these difficult economic times when the need to keep the Christmas tradition is greater than ever.” Caridad Center is a non-profit organization, helping low-income, working poor families with medical and social services. Since 2008 the Wellington Equestrian Group has raised nearly $300,000 to underwrite the annual Christmas Party. Funds purchase gift certificates for Christmas dinner for every family attending the party. Donations also purchase backpacks and back-to-school supplies, including clothing and books, college scholarships, a summer camp, support for the Caridad Girl Scout Troop and a trip for Caridad youngsters to Washington D.C.
